Tributes Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Face a Security Hold.
Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the duo.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, explained he only now felt ready to post publicly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has passed that I can now put my grief into words," posted Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner created an instant bond. "Once we started passing more hours together I realized this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor shared never-before-seen clips from the film, remarking that he could not remember "any day without mirth".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Things that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes wrote.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still hurts every time I remember you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Fellow Artist
In a separate essay, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was uproarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with the cast, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles judge decided to block the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the local authorities.
A court order put a embargo on the files to limit the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" pertaining to the active case.
The coroner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the result of murder, with a record noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the deaths, public personalities expressed varying responses.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, providing divisive claims that were broadly criticized by several commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his voice to the detractors recently. Talking on his podcast, Rogan characterized the statements as "disturbing" and suggested they revealed a concerning lack of empathy.
Rogan concluded by proposing that an associate could have intervened when the choice to speak on the tragedy was made.
